British police and prosecutors on Saturday announced the indictment of a 34-year-old man in the August murder of a nine-year-old girl, shot dead at her home in Liverpool, north-west England.
Olivia Pratt-Korbel was shot in the chest on August 22.
His mother had opened the door to her house after hearing a noise in the street.
A man then rushed in, chased by a second who fired indiscriminately, wounding the 46-year-old mother in the hand and killing the little girl who was behind her.
His death - the third fatal shooting in the city in the space of a week at the time - shocked the country and sparked calls for greater action to tackle guns and organized crime.
In a statement, local police said Thomas Cashman, from West Derby on the outskirts of Liverpool, had been charged with the girl's murder.
The man is also charged with attempted murder of Cheryl Korbel, Olivia's mother, and Joseph Nee, a burglar.
Cashman and another suspect, Paul Russell, 40, accused of being his accomplice, are due in court in Liverpool on Monday.
The police are continuing their investigation to identify other accomplices, including “
the people who provided the weapon or who are hiding the weapons used in this incident
”.
