In Wackersberg, a very special custom has been celebrated on Thanksgiving every year since 1932.
If the weather cooperates, this year again.
Wackersberg - If the weather permits, the Holy of Holies will be carried in a procession through the village and through the corridors in Wackersberg on Sunday, October 2nd, after the service (beginning: 8.30 a.m.).
In this way, the Lord is not only thanked for a good harvest, but also craftsmen and business people express their joy at a productive year.
Connection with church renovation in 1932
The harvest festival in the church has been documented since the 3rd century.
The thanksgiving procession has existed in Wackersberg since 1932 and is related to the restoration of the church.
That is how it was established and written down at that time.
On March 6, 1932, the church administration decided to work on the church, and on March 31 the scaffolding was done by the carpenters Anton Riesch and Andreas Simon, as can be read in the archive.
After just under seven months, the scaffolding could be dismantled again.
The faithful of the parish were enthusiastic, and the suggestion of a procession to follow the Thanksgiving service was well received.
On September 25, 1932, the first harvest festival with a procession took place.
A strong participation of the population is expected for the 90th anniversary this year.
In addition to farmers, craftsmen and business people, Pastor Leo Sobik is not only looking forward to the coming of the rifle company, the bodice girls and women in the Schalk.
Children and young people are also welcome.
