Thousands of Israelis go down to Sinai and leave their vehicles around the neighborhoods in Eilat, take a taxi to the border crossing and jam the city.

So the residents of Eilat had enough of this and the municipality began to enforce prohibited parking with fines and vehicle towing.

1,861 reports were given close to the Rosh Hashanah holiday for illegal parking. Most of them passing to Sinai, parked in violation of the signs that prohibit night parking along the southern coastal strip, in the dirt squares and in the city's neighborhoods.

Instead of parking their vehicles in the long-term parking lot, which the Eilat municipality prepared mainly for them in the northern area of the old airport, the people moving to Sinai parked around the city and occupied parking spaces belonging to the city's residents and guests.

In addition to the fines, 67 vehicles that obstructed traffic and blocked roads or emergency passages were towed.

It is worth noting that over 20,000 people moved to Sinai during the holiday, most of them camped legally.

As I recall, last Passover, the municipality set up a long-term parking lot in the northern area of the old airport, which includes about 2,000 parking spaces at a cost of NIS 25 per day.

The municipality has also made available to vehicle owners a special cash register where they can pay by credit card.
