Since the first section of the Lenggries-Jachenau cycle path was opened in 2019, the next construction phases have been a long time coming.

Now there is news.

Jachenau/Lenggries

- The cycle path connection between Lenggries and Jachenau is a project that initially required many years of preparation and has now been at a standstill, at least externally, for several years.

Because since the first completed section between Rehgraben and the Jachenau district of Raut was opened in autumn 2019, a lot has been planned in the background - but no further construction has been done.

This could change soon.

A relocation of the state road is now being discussed on both the Lenggrieser and Jachenau side.

State road 2072 is to be relocated for bike path construction in Jachenau

In the Jachenau, the section between Höfen and the school in Wieden has priority when it comes to building a cycle path - especially since it also connects to the Friedelweide development area, where, according to Mayor Klaus Rauchenberger, a particularly large number of children live.

But planning the route was complicated.

Many variants were under discussion - for example, building the cycle path on a cantilever over the Jachen or - this was the favorite from the point of view of the municipality - to move the stream bed for the cycle path in one piece.

Now, Rauchenberger explains when asked, there is a tendency to relocate the state road on a stretch of around 600 to 800 meters between the entrance to the sports field and the open space near the Danner car dealership in order to make room for the cycle path.

The state road would have to move closer to the Brunnenberg.

According to Rauchenberger, the Weilheim State Building Authority is confident that this could be implemented as early as next year.

The district office had signaled that from a nature conservation perspective, there were "no knockout criteria" for this variant.

The mayor himself regards this solution with mixed feelings.

He is glad that the bike path is being built further.

Another advantage is that a section of the badly holed state road 2072 is finally being rehabilitated on this occasion.

But the whole thing is also “very complex and incredibly expensive”.

Before you get that close to the mountain, geological investigations are still necessary.

Rauchenberger reminds that in the past the municipality rejected building applications in the area because of the risk of falling rocks.

In any case, sheet piling would have to be built on the mountain slope during the construction period so that the state road – practically the only connection to and from Jachenau – always remains safe to drive on.

"And if I were a forest owner there, it would make my hair stand up," says Rauchenberger.

Private landowners would certainly object to the road being moved into their forest land - even if the forest is difficult to manage because of the slope.

In fact, the affected forest belongs to the state forests.

And Rauchenberger doesn't expect any resistance from them in basic negotiations.

Of course, he is not opposed to the new variant either – especially since the Free State not only bears the construction costs, but has now also taken on the complicated planning for which the municipality would originally have been responsible.

State road 2072 is also planned to be relocated in Lenggries

Laying the state road: This is also the method of choice for the next planned section on the Lenggrieser side.

As reported, the head of the building authority, Karl Ertl, had already presented this variant to the municipal council in the spring.

According to previous plans, the problem with the planned extension of the cycle path to Leger would have been that it would have affected the flood ditch next to the road - and that would have affected protected species or required an expensive bridge over the flood ditch.

Now the state road in the direction of Berg is also to be relocated on Lenggrieser Flur in order to make room for the cycle path - and on this occasion it is to be renovated and raised so that it is no longer flooded.

Transport Minister Bernreiter comes on Tuesday

According to Ertl, a nature conservation study has already been commissioned and the community will now start the necessary property negotiations.

It is not yet possible to say when this phase of construction could be implemented.

There could be news next Tuesday.

The Bavarian Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter has announced a visit to the district for this day.

It should be about the condition of the state roads and also about the construction of the Lenggries-Jachenau cycle path.
