The United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced that no agreement was reached on the extension of the armistice in Yemen.
And the website of Russia Today channel quoted Grundberg's office as saying in a statement today that "the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen regrets the failure to reach an agreement today, because the extended and expanded truce would provide additional decisive benefits for the population," noting that Grundberg will continue In working with both sides to try to find solutions and quickly reach an agreement.
Grundberg called on all parties to maintain calm and refrain from provocations, or any actions that might lead to an escalation of violence.
Grundberg stressed that the Yemenis need to end the war, through a comprehensive political process and a negotiated settlement, noting that the armistice that began on April 2 provided a real historical opportunity for Yemen.
Yesterday, the Yemeni negotiating delegation held the countries of aggression responsible for reaching the understandings to a dead end as a result of their intransigence and disavowal of measures that alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, noting that it exercised the utmost restraint towards violations of the aggression, in order to give more time to deliberations and international efforts.
