The Stadtbach in Weilheim becomes a construction site: work will start on Tuesday, for which a section of the creek will be drained.

The city has now announced why this is necessary.

Weilheim

- In order to improve flood protection in Weilheim, the "dilapidated wooden structure" of the Stadtbach from Gögerlweg to Trachtenheim will be renewed this autumn, the city administration explains in a press release.

The work, in the form of a traveling construction site, is scheduled to last from next Tuesday, October 4th, until Christmas.

According to the municipality, they are a "preliminary measure" for the major project "Angerbach flood protection" and make "an important contribution to the success of the overall concept".

"The existing wooden structure has lost its function due to decades of weathering and can no longer protect the lateral earthen dams from erosion," says the press release about the Stadtbach.

In the course of the work, bridges and footbridges are also to be upgraded.

The construction work is carried out with consideration for road traffic

According to the Weilheim city administration, a dry excavation pit is essential for civil engineering work.

Therefore, the water is diverted from the division weir at the Ölschlag into the Simmetsbach.

The Stadtbach should then only carry residual water for microorganisms and will be drained throughout the construction phase.

Unfortunately, the construction work cannot be carried out without affecting the residents, according to the city.

However, the construction equipment would mainly work from the south side of the upper town with the road closed on one side in order to disrupt traffic as little as possible.

And the lane on the north side of the upper town, the main traffic axis there, will be kept mostly free for traffic.
