Another proof that hummus brings religions, peoples and hearts together - even far overseas.
Jews, Christians and Muslims celebrated the fruitful coexistence between them in a hummus making competition that took place precisely in... Sao Paulo, the largest city in Brazil.
The competition was held at the initiative of Hebraica - a Jewish-Brazilian organization operating in several cities in the South American country.
Grain cooks from the three religions competed in the finals of the hummus preparation championship that took place on September 21, close to the holidays of Tishrei and the International Day of Peace on behalf of the United Nations.
About 150 guests attended the Hasli event, and those present reported an exciting mix not only of olive oil, garlic and parsley, but also of kippahs and kaffias.
Ariel Crook, a Jewish activist, compared the competition to a "friendly football match", only that more than one team competed for the victory, and added that "this is a wonderful opportunity to make connections, exchange ideas and experiences, make hummus, make peace and make a better future".
Whereas Jack Turpins, president of the Latin branch of the World Jewish Congress, noted that "the meeting between Jews, Muslims and Christians around the most beloved dish in the Middle East helps to purify the relations between the three groups and expands the dialogue between them."

And which team wiped its way to victory?
Well, "Team Sahtein", consisting of three Arab-Christian-Brazilian women who represented the local "Mount Lebanon" club, won first place (see photo) - according to the official judging panel of the competition.
But as you can see from the grand opening of the table, the real winners are all the attendees of the event, who got to enjoy an impressive variety of heart-warming hummus dishes.
To be sure, no one was fooled there.
