"A touch of nostalgia": At Rewe and Edeka, popular chocolate bars and cat food are now becoming scarce

Food prices have risen sharply in recent weeks.

The high prices are likely to attract more customers to the cheaper discounters.
Therefore, markets such as Edeka and Rewe are trying to lure with savings offers.

But this is where many food manufacturers throw a spanner in the works.
Edeka in particular is always fighting hard prices.

Mars not only supplies the well-known confectionery brands such as Bounty, Snickers, Twix and Co., but also the well-known Uncle Ben's rice or pet food such as Whiskas, Sheba and Pedigree.

reports, the producer has not been delivering to Rewe and Edeka for three months now – and the warehouses are getting emptier.
The two supermarket giants do not comment on the price war with Mars.
From the environment, one can only hear calls for "incomprehensible price increases".
The Mars confectionery boss Carsten Simon explained to the

that the producer "urgently needs a second price increase this year" due to the sharp rise in costs.
The average increase would be in the high single-digit percentage range.
Customers already notice empty shelves: "Let my cat starve"
Customers have now also discovered the first gaps on the shelves.
On Twitter, an Edeka customer shares an almost empty Whiskas cat food shelf.
Between the last remaining packets of food there is a note from the market.
Shown on it are Edeka's own brand cat food with the slogan "Whiskas has escaped.
We are faithful to you."
Another customer has also noticed the gaps, especially in the cat food.
He shares the picture of an empty Edeka shelf and writes: "The day before yesterday in the Edeka Center.
Otherwise always excellently stocked in the cat food department.
Never seen such a yawning emptiness.” When another user pointed out the ongoing price war, the cat owner showed little understanding.
"Ah, I see.
Well, then it's no wonder, of course I show solidarity & let my cats starve," he replies sarcastically.
