The Directorate of Health in Homs Governorate, in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund “UNICEF”, organized an educational seminar on ways to prevent cholera, and on the polio, measles and rubella vaccines, targeting a number of media professionals in the governorate.
The head of the vaccine program in the Homs Health Directorate, Dr. Ahmed Balloul, referred to the types of polio viruses, and the distribution of measles cases in the governorates according to the latest statistics, preventive measures, and the percentage of coverage followed by the directorate, stressing the role of the media in delivering messages about the necessity of receiving the vaccine and its importance in immunizing children against diseases Raising the vaccination rate to avoid the mutation of the virus.
Balloul pointed out that the national campaign for vaccination against polio, measles and rubella will be launched on the 9th of this month for a period of 10 days through 168 health centers within 12 health districts, noting that 7 vaccination centers have been established in the city, in addition to 31 mobile teams to cover 546 villages.
The Assistant Head of the Vaccine Division in the Health Directorate, Dr. Ziad Lewis, reviewed the symptoms of cholera, information related to it, methods of transmission and methods of prevention, pointing to the need to follow sound health guidelines to prevent the disease, as most deaths result from delays in seeking early medical advice or for people suffering from chronic diseases.
