A high school student attacked a classmate on Monday with a knife at an institute in Águilas (Murcia Region) and subsequently fled.

The injured minor has been transferred to the Rafael Méndez de Lorca hospital, where he is stabilized and there is no fear for his life.

The aggressor has been arrested hours later at the door of his home.

The event, sources from the Civil Guard, which has taken charge of the investigation, have confirmed to EL PAÍS, occurred around half past nine in one of the classrooms of the Alfonso Escámez de Águilas institute, a town of about 35,000 population.

Both the victim and the aggressor are between 14 and 16 years old and studied together at that educational center.

In the Ministry of Education of Murcia they have detailed that the aggression occurred at the time of the change of class from the first to the second hour, when the two adolescents were in the same classroom.

"Apparently, the reason [for the attack] comes from a fight that started outside the center," says a spokesperson for the ministry, who added that the Coexistence Observatory is "working on the issue together with the management and center guidance department.

At the moment, it is being studied if there was any previous complaint of harassment or any problem of coexistence among these students.

The Civil Guard has no previous record of the aggressor.

The mayor of Águilas, María del Carmen Moreno, declared after visiting the educational center that a year ago there was an episode of insults that would have motivated the expulsion of the alleged aggressor, who apparently was absentee and did not attend class regularly.

Moreno thanked the institute's management team and the teachers for their quick reaction, "who have had a lot to do with the 15-year-old boy going to the hospital in a stable condition," reports Efe.

From Education they have also detailed that "the attacked student has not lost consciousness at any time"

It is not the first case of aggression with a knife in an educational center that is lived in the Region of Murcia.

Last February, another teenager attacked one of his teachers from behind while he was teaching at the private school Monteagudo, in the capital of Murcia.
