The eco-party ödp has a new federal chairwoman: Charlotte Schmid from Poing.

The 45-year-old won the runoff with a three-vote lead over the previous incumbent.

Würzburg/Poing – The 45-year-old Charlotte Schmid from Poing is the new federal chairman of the eco-party ödp.

At the federal party conference at the weekend in Würzburg, she won the runoff election with 99 to 96 votes against the previous chairman Christian Rechholz.

In the first ballot, four candidates stood, here the Poingerin had received 97 votes - but not the absolute majority, since Rechholz had 92 votes.

The direct comparison then applied in the runoff.

“I am a politician who wants to actively do something.

Charlotte Schmidt

Charlotte Schmid was born in England, is a freelance patent translator and mother of two children.

The Poingerin has been on the ödp federal board for two years, initially as an assessor and since April as the second deputy chairwoman.

Why was she now running against the incumbent?

“Because I saw ways to do things better.

I want to build bridges between young and old,” she replies late on Sunday afternoon via cell phone from the train on the way home from Würzburg to Poing.

She has been in her home church for years.

She was involved in the local people's initiative for biodiversity ("Save the bees"), in which the Ecological Democratic Party (ödp) was significantly involved.

Schmid co-founded the Poinger interest group for species protection, which was converted into the Poing local group of the Bund Naturschutz in 2021.

Charlotte Schmid is its 2nd chairwoman, Miriam Benthaus the 1st chairwoman.

“I stand for healthy air, pure water and better climate protection.

Only a policy that secures these livelihoods for our children is still responsible today.” With these words, Charlotte Schmid was quoted in the official ödp press release after the election.

She has already proven several times in Poing that she doesn't just talk about it, but actually does something.

Also in campaigns such as planting flower bulbs on public green spaces and collecting cigarette butts on the market square.
