The Governor of Hasaka, Dr. Louay Sayoh, discussed with the Regional Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Adele Khader and the accompanying delegation the urgent issues of the governorate, in the sectors of education, health and water, and the possibility of increasing the support provided.
During the meeting, Sayouh reviewed the governorate’s suffering as a result of the attacks on schools and their seizure by the SDF militia, where there are about 100,000 students and students outside schools. Therefore, it is necessary to increase support for government efforts in the educational sector to attract the largest possible number of students, through Renting alternative premises for the seized schools, and increasing prefabricated classrooms.
In the water sector, Sayouh said: The governorate is facing a humanitarian catastrophe as the Turkish occupier and its mercenaries continue to cut off drinking water from its only source for one million citizens for the 72nd day in a row, indicating that government measures are currently focused on securing the minimum amount of drinking water for the people, through desalination plants. It operates at its maximum capacity, but does not fill the need.
In the field of health, Soyoh stressed the need to continue to support vaccination campaigns and support the modernized medical center in the center of Hasaka, specifically the pediatric department by providing incubators and working to secure kidney sessions for children with renal failure.
For her part, Khader pointed out that the UNICEF delegation, after visiting areas in Al-Hasakah, touched the problem of water shortages and the extent of suffering, and learned more about the issue of schools, indicating that the organization will work towards accommodating the largest possible number of children in schools.
Khader expressed her thanks for the cooperation shown by the Syrian government to deliver its services to all citizens, and the great role and facilities provided by Al-Hasakah Governorate to the organization's office team in the governorate to carry out their humanitarian and relief duty as required.
