The Minister of Foreign Affairs deplores the circulation of “false information” which may have led to “movements tending to consider that France was involved in the internal political crisis that Burkina Faso is experiencing”.

The soldiers in power in Burkina Faso since January 2022 were in turn overthrown on Sunday, October 2, by other officers.

A situation that led to the resignation of the interim president, Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Damiba.

France, accused of supporting the regime in power, became the target of anger, with the consulate and the embassy becoming the targets of stone-throwing, damage and attempted intrusions.

In a statement dated October 1, France denied "

any involvement in the events underway since yesterday in Burkina Faso

".

And to specify: "

The camp where the French forces are located has never welcomed Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, any more than our embassy

".

In an interview with Radio France and RFI on Sunday, Catherine Colonna called for an end to the violence, denouncing "

serious and intolerable incidents

".

"

France is not a party to these events

," recalled the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

We see a number of misinformation circulating.

They could lead to movements tending to consider that France was involved in the internal political crisis that Burkina Faso is experiencing: it is not so

”.

If contacts did take place between Paul-Henri Damiba and France, they only had, according to her, to "

ensure the safety

" of the French on the spot.
