Queen Elizabeth II was particularly fond of her corgis.

A breed of dog that is now experiencing hype and is bringing in tidy profits for breeders.

Alert, active, intelligent, well-balanced and self-confident: these are the characteristics that characterize the Welsh Corgi.

Typical is his small physique with short legs.

Some also say that he is a German shepherd on top and a dachshund on the bottom.

Although rare in this country, representatives of the breed are well known as the Queen's favorite dogs and, following her death, are now more popular than ever.

The dog breed is experiencing hype and breeder prices for Corgis are skyrocketing, as reported by landtiere.de.

The prices were therefore twice as high as three days earlier.

More than 2,500 pounds (2,795 euros) were asked for one of the small herding dogs.

The monarch is said to have bred Corgis herself for more than 80 years.

In the course of her life she is said to have been the proud owner of more than 30 corgis.

Most of them came from their own breed.

The monarch had a particularly deep connection to the Pembroke Welsh Corgis.

Dog breed Corgi more popular than ever: There are two variants

Corgis come in two varieties: Pembroke and Cardigan.

They differ in the length of the tail and in the color of their fur.

More reddish colors are permitted for the Pembroke, and other colors for the cardigan.

The Pembroke is said to have a short tail which, if not docked, results from a genetic defect.

For animal welfare reasons, the requirement for the Pembroke to have a short tail has been officially relaxed.

Mainly because the genetic defect can have serious health consequences.

With the cardigan, the natural, long tail is desirable.

Crazy about Welsh Corgis is also a woman from California.

The dog breed has been an integral part of the royal family since 1933.

Even as children and teenagers, they followed her every step of the way.

And even into old age, Queen Elizabeth II could not be without her four-legged companions.

A life without animals was simply impossible for Queen Elizabeth II.

Besides dogs, horses were her “great love”.
