The mayor of Priolo Gargallo (Syracuse), Pippo Gianni, 77, was placed under house arrest on charges of extortion.
The first citizen would be involved in an investigation by the Prosecutor of Syracuse for a series of extortions.
Gianni, former national and regional parliamentarian, and former regional councilor, was re-elected mayor of the city of the industrial area in 2018, after having held the position of mayor of Priolo from 1984 to 1991. Gianni had joined "Lega Sicilia in August. - Italy first.
