HSBC Charitable Foundation partnered with Changchun Community to launch Hong Kong’s first “Hong Kong Green Rehabus (“Green Rehabus”) Pilot Scheme” to support and assist social welfare organizations to switch to electric vehicles to provide rehabus services. The pilot scheme lasts for 3 years. The 7 selected social welfare organisations will be allocated an electric barrier-free bus "Green Kangba", as well as support in terms of charging facilities and optimization of walking routes.

At present, there are more than 1,000 rehabilitation buses operated by social welfare organizations in Hong Kong. Without relevant resources and technical support, it is difficult to cooperate with green travel.

Lin Huihong said: "The emergence of 'Green Kangba' marks an important step in the popularization of electric vehicles in Hong Kong. Many social welfare organizations hope to contribute to carbon reduction. However, due to problems such as resources and technology, the There is no way to start. Through the pilot program, we are determined to enhance the knowledge of social welfare organizations in terms of conversion, operation and financial arrangements, so that more Rehabuses can become "Green Kangba"! HSBC has set a goal, and it is expected to be in 2030 or before. , reduce carbon emissions in operations and supply chains, and become a net-zero carbon bank. We hope to cooperate with more like-minded institutions to jointly promote Hong Kong’s progress towards net-zero carbon emissions.”

Dr Chung Shanshan said, "Switching to electric rehabus can not only reduce carbon dioxide emissions, but also reduce roadside air pollution. This pilot project takes care of the disadvantaged and the environment we live in."

The plan will fully subsidize the replacement of existing diesel reha buses with electric reha buses or the purchase of new electric reha buses for the recipient social welfare organizations. The seating arrangements in the car will be designed according to service needs.

The experience and data obtained from the pilot project will be compiled into a "Guide to Electric Rehabuses", which covers the process of switching to electric buses, operational details, financing arrangements and financial advice for reference by other social welfare organisations that intend to switch to electric vehicles. Greater benefits and longer-term impact.
