Hygiene black spot ︱ FEHD Police will crack down on street blockades in Hong Kong today, intensify prosecution and demand removal of goods

FEHD and the police conducted 316 law enforcement inspections in six districts in one year

In the past year, the two departments conducted more than 316 joint operations in the above-mentioned six districts, and issued 1,537 fixed penalty notices or summonses and 342 warning notices for causing obstruction and cleanliness in public places. The items were removed within a time limit. Among them, 65 notices were not complied with. The FEHD then removed about 16.8 tonnes of related goods or items, most of which were confiscated by court orders.

The working group believes that the joint law enforcement model of the FEHD and the police can effectively combat the problem of shops blocking the streets. Therefore, the relevant law enforcement model has been adopted in various districts in Hong Kong since this month.

A spokesman for the FEHD appealed to shop owners and other stakeholders not to illegally expand their business areas, and not to place goods or articles in public places or roads that would obstruct the flow of pedestrians or vehicles.

The FEHD and the Police will continue to monitor and enforce the law on a regular basis to combat the problem of shops blocking the streets.
