The National Water Commission of Mexico (Conagua) reported this Sunday that Hurricane Orlene, now category 2, is expected to lose intensity in the next few hours over the sea and cause "intense to torrential rains in Sinaloa, Nayarit and Jalisco , as well as very heavy to intense rains in Colima, Michoacán and Durango".
According to Conagua, Orlene will impact the southern coast of the state of Sinaloa and the north of Nayarit, between the municipalities of Escuinapa, Rosario and Tecuala, as a category 1 hurricane. Then it will continue its path towards Durango.
The authorities asked the residents of the states where Orlene will arrive "to take extreme protection measures, to prevent, as far as possible, greater damage to the population."

Orlene would make landfall this Monday near Mazatlan
By Rob Shackleford
The expected rain buildup could lead to flash flooding along the coast.
Hurricane Orlene is poised to hit Mexico on Monday, bringing heavy rain and the possibility of severe flooding to popular tourist areas along the country's west coast.
The hurricane weakened from becoming a Category 4 on Sunday afternoon, and is moving north at 13 kilometers per hour.
Tropical storm-force winds extend up to 90 miles from the cyclone's core, according to the US National Hurricane Center.
Orlene is forecast to remain at hurricane strength when it makes landfall Monday afternoon or evening just south of Mazatlan and then rapidly weaken, the NHC projected.
Outlying islands could see 6 to 10 inches of rain, with local amounts of more than 12 inches, leading to localized flooding and possible landslides, the National Hurricane Center said, adding that dangerous storm surges can be expected, with waves of up to 1.80 meters.
