The State Duma Committee on State Structure and State Legislation approved draft constitutional laws with the admission of the Donetsk and Lugansk republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions to Russia.
The RIA Novosti news agency quoted the Russian Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation as saying: The entry of new entities into Russia is carried out on the basis of bilateral international treaties, and after receiving such a proposal from the entity wishing to join, the presidents of the Federation Council and the Duma are notified, and after signing the international treaty, the head of state asks The Constitutional Court checks compliance with the terms of the international treaty, and a draft federal constitutional law on the admission of a new entity to the Russian Federation is submitted to Parliament.
This approval comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed treaties last Friday with the rulers of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions on their acceptance to join Russia following the results of referendums held there.
