BRUSSELS -
The action plan of the EU Commission on energy has been postponed at least until after the informal leaders' meeting in Prague.
The presentation of the plan, in recent days, was scheduled for tomorrow, when the college of European commissioners will meet.
"The point is not on the agenda. On Friday the dossier will be at the center of the informal European Council, after which we can proceed quickly to continue our work on energy prices", explained Dana Spinant, spokesperson for the EU Commission.
"We will listen to the member countries and act in the appropriate manner and at the appropriate time"
, added another EU spokesman, Tim McPhie.
"We are in contact with the German authorities" about the 200 billion aid plan announced by Berlin.
A spokeswoman for the EU Commission, Arianna Podestà, explained the German package to calm gas prices. "
It is up to the Member State to assess whether or not a measure constitutes State aid and notify the Commission.
Once the Commission arrives. notification we evaluate, verifying its compatibility with the single market ";
she added, reiterating the importance of the "level playing field" - that is, a level playing field - for the member countries.
"This is also why it is important that we will soon have a new temporary state aid framework" linked to the energy crisis, explained the European spokesperson.
Initially Palazzo Berlaymont had planned to bring a non-paper (unofficial document) to the table of the Energy Affairs Council last Friday before putting forward the proposal for an Action Plan tomorrow.
However, the deep split between EU countries on the price cap slowed down times and last week's meeting of energy ministers confirmed that there is no agreement on the Commission's non-paper.
In the coming days, the work of President Ursula von der Leyen will continue to find a basis of consensus at the summit of EU leaders in Prague on Friday.
Tomorrow the number one of the Commission will in fact be in Paris for a face to face with Emmanuel Macron who, instead, will meet Chancellor Olaf Scholz tonight.
And Germany is currently among the main opponents of the gas price cap.
