In order to improve the quality of driving teachers, the government previously amended the law to require driving teachers to take refresher courses before they can renew their licenses.
The Transport Department today (3rd) will launch a driving instructor refresher course starting from November 3rd. Registration for driving instructors will be accepted from today, free of charge, and the class will last for eight hours.
The department pointed out that if a driving instructor applies for a renewal of a driving instructor license on or after December 1, 2023, he must complete the relevant course within three years before the renewal.
Both private driving instructors and driving school instructors are required to take refresher courses.

A spokesman for the Transport Department said today that the amendments to the relevant legislation have come into effect on December 1, 2021. There is a two-year transition period for the provisions on refresher courses for driving instructors.
If a private driving instructor, or holder of a restricted driving instructor licence from a designated driving school, applies for licence renewal on or after December 1, 2023, they must complete a refresher course within three years before renewing their licence.
The refresher course is open for registration from today. The class duration of the course is 8 hours and there is no charge.
Students who pass the final written test will be issued a course certificate and renew their driving instructor's license.
