The US National Archives and Records Administration has announced that the administration of former President Donald Trump has not turned over all presidential records, some of which are classified as top secret.

Reuters quoted the administration as saying: The Trump administration has not turned over all presidential records, some of which are classified as top secret, and that the National Archives will consult with the Department of Justice on whether it will take measures to recover them.

On September 13, a US congressional committee sought an urgent review by the National Archives and Records Administration, after Trump staff admitted they did not know whether all presidential records had been turned over from the Trump White House.

In a letter to the House Oversight and Reform Committee, Acting Director of the Archives Debra Wall said her administration knows that some White House employees have violated the Presidential Records Act, and the National Archives and Records Administration has been able to obtain evidence from a number of former officials.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney, chair of the Oversight Committee, said in a statement that "Trump and his senior staff have demonstrated complete disregard for the rule of law and national security by not returning presidential records as required by law."

The Justice Department is investigating Trump's keeping of government records, some of which are classified as top secret, at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach after leaving the presidency in January 2021.

The department is also looking into the possibility that he obstructed the investigation after finding evidence that the records may have been transferred or hidden from FBI agents who went to Mar-a-Lago in June.
