As part of the activities of the national campaign to raise awareness of the importance of early detection of breast cancer, the Family Planning Association, in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund, held a scientific day entitled “Breast Lesions” in the hall of John of Damascus Church in Abu Rummaneh.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Family Planning Association, Dr. Hazar Miqdad, stressed the importance of the awareness month “October”, which is known globally as the pink month to introduce everything related to breast cancer, methods of treatment and prevention, as it is the most common among women, pointing to the efforts of the association that have been made over the years. In order to pay attention to the reproductive health of women, and early detection of this disease.

The resident representative of the United Nations Population Fund, Hamir Abdel-Ghani, explained that the fund continues in partnership with the ministries of health, education and scientific research and associations to raise awareness about breast cancer, the importance of early detection, and access to quality medical and treatment services.

The lectures during the scientific day focused on recent scientific developments about breast cancer, calcifications that affect the breast, radiographic diagnosis of healthy and malignant breast lesions, how to treat and follow-up on breast tumors.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Syrian Breast Diseases Society, Dr. Nouri Al-Modarres, gave a lecture entitled “Calcifications in the breast”, which included a detailed explanation of calcifications, methods of detection, digital imaging, and their nature, whether they are associated with other signs or not, pointing out that 55 percent of microcalcifications are associated with With a tumor, it is undetectable on an MRI.

The lecture of the specialist in hematology and oncology, Dr. Nisreen Khazem, focused on the points that have changed in the management, detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast masses, and how to manage and treat the infection during pregnancy, as treatment should not be delayed until after the birth.

Khazem indicated that there are two types of treatment, the first targeted, which is widely available in government hospitals for breast patients to kill the tumor cell, and is used in the event that the cause of reproduction is known through conducting analyzes, and the second is chemical, where the treatment is directed to all cells, and is used in the absence of Knowledge and, in some cases, a combination of the two types of treatment.
