According to Stefan Löwl, troubled times will come to the Dachau district office in the coming months.

Dachau – District Administrator Stefan Löwl gave a current outlook for the coming months in the district committee meeting on Friday.

And this will be extremely work-intensive for him and his approximately 500 employees.

“Big issues,” says Löwl, are the increasing number of refugees, the fact that “we have massive additional tasks ahead of us” and that local public transport can no longer be expanded.

Government announces allocation of refugees

The district office recently received an announcement from the government that 50 asylum seekers will be assigned to each of the district administration authorities in the next two weeks.

The background is a sharp increase in admissions and high utilization of the government's initial reception facilities.

According to Löwl, “the considerations and plans for the full occupancy of the existing accommodation have been underway for a few weeks”.

The district office will look at the individual accommodations in coordination with the communities and helper groups.

In this context, the district administrator also brought up the possibility of rebuilding an air dome.

Already from autumn 2015 to spring 2017 there was such accommodation in Karlsfeld for 300 refugees.

And an air dome was also operated in Bergkirchen.

“We will have to handle all of this in terms of personnel,” said Löwl, who added: “Otherwise we don’t have any crises!”

As far as the origin of the asylum seekers is concerned, the district administrator expects people from Afghanistan to move in.

Above all, they are local workers.

This refers to people who worked in the country for German institutions such as the Bundeswehr or the Foreign Office.

Löwl also believes that more Kurds and Syrians are coming to Germany.

And after Serbia has lifted the visa requirement, it is to be expected that "people will travel through there and come to us".

As the district administrator further announced, some of his employees will soon have to devote themselves to a new area of responsibility.

From next year, the district will take over "the entire support business from the district court," according to the district administrator.

The area changes, "but not a single employee from the district court," he said.

There is a lack of bus drivers: public transport is not being expanded

And since "we're running out of people," said Löwl at the end of his speech, he announced another - bad - news.

Because there are no longer any bus drivers on the labor market, “local public transport will no longer be able to be expanded”.

On the contrary, it might even be difficult to maintain the status quo in local public transport, as the example of the MVV bus 772 recently showed.

Due to a lack of staff, the clock there had to be thinned out.
