The 187th Oktoberfest came to an end with a loud bang.

The firecrackers traditionally provided the fitting conclusion on Monday.

The dominant theme in the past 17 days was rain and cold, but for many this year's Wiesn was still a hit in a figurative sense.

Oktoberfest in Munich: firecracker salvo was the last highlight of the Wiesn

Under the eyes of Prince Ludwig of Bavaria, the firecrackers gathered at the feet of Bavaria yesterday.

Hundreds of onlookers had come to follow the goings-on.

It was the last highlight of a Oktoberfest that will be remembered.

On September 17, at the start of the Oktoberfest, young people had already gathered at the entrance to the Theresienwiese from four in the morning.

After two failures in a row, the thirst for beer was great.

After all, three age groups experienced their first Wiesn as adults.

Apparently Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) could no longer expect it.

Already a few seconds before twelve he tapped with three strokes.

Then the festival got going.

At the end of the day, there was a proper celebration in glorious weather.

This year, the visitors came primarily from Munich and the region, but many Americans also flocked to the Bavarian state capital.

As usual, they were joined by the French, Italians, Spaniards and Brits.

The Wiesn was once again a folk festival of the nations.

There were even enough hotel rooms in the city this year and no one had to move to the surrounding area.

This was certainly also due to the fact that this time there were hardly any guests from Asia (because of the corona restrictions there) and no Russians at all (because of the Ukraine war).

While the showmen and beer garden attendants in particular suffered from the cold and rain, the mood in the tents boiled over as usual.

Mainly responsible for this: Layla!

The much-discussed Ballermann hit made the race the Wiesn cracker of the year.

The toast to cosiness still remained the most played song, as Wiesn boss Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU) emphasized.

The last Oktoberfest for Viktoria Ostler as the Munich Kindl

It was also a special Oktoberfest for Viktoria Ostler (29): she experienced her last Oktoberfest as a Munich child.

They get married in October – then, according to tradition, their successor takes over.

"You get to know such wonderful people, get great impressions, new experiences - that's unique," Ostler summarized her time as the city's representative.

The same applies to everyone at the Oktoberfest: people get to know each other, exchange ideas and celebrate together.

The Oktoberfest connects – again in 2023.

Then, by the way, maybe even 18 days, because October 3rd next year falls on a Tuesday.

This means that the extension to the XXL Oktoberfest is possible.
