At the invitation of the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports, Maestro Misak Baghboudrian, conductor of the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra, led the Arab Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, which includes young musicians from several Arab countries, through two musical evenings, the first at the Alexandria Opera House, and the second this evening on the stage of the Republic Theater in Cairo.

The program of the two evenings included the presentation of the orchestra by the sequence “Old Dances and Songs for the Lyot” No. 3 by the Italian composer Risbegi, and excerpts from a love poem by the great musician Salihi Al-Wadi, and the Serenad for the String Orchestra of the Russian composer Tchaikovsky.

In a statement to SANA reporter in Cairo between Maestro Baghboudrian, the Arab Youth Philharmonic Orchestra meets every year and includes young musicians, pointing out that the 2022 edition included about 50 string instrument players from several Arab countries, including Iraq, Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt.

Maestro Baghboudarian pointed out that a variety of musical pieces have been selected, so that young people can learn about several musical styles, as this year the orchestra includes young musicians who are doing their first experience in orchestral playing, which is different from individual performance in many respects.

And he indicated that the first rehearsals took place in Alexandria, where the orchestra gave a concert at the Alexandria Opera House yesterday, while its second concert was today on the stage of the Republic Theater in Cairo.

About this experience, Maestro Baghboudrian explained that it was a new and enjoyable experience for him, because it was the first time he worked with young musicians from various countries, and some of them had his first experience in orchestral playing, in addition to its importance in transferring knowledge and experience to these young people.

Regarding the presence of a piece of music composed by the late great Salhi al-Wadi, Maestro Baghboudrian affirmed his constant keenness to introduce musicians and the public outside Syria to the works of Syrian authors, in addition to the importance of explaining the experience of Maestro al-Wadi with academic music in Syria, not to mention his association with the city of Alexandria in his early years of study.

It is noteworthy that the Arab Youth Philharmonic Orchestra is the first of its kind in the Arab region and Africa, with the participation of about 95 male and female musicians from 11 Arab countries. It presents Arabic compositions and others from the world musical heritage.

The orchestra aims to gather distinguished Arab youth in a major artistic project that develops their artistic, technical and creative abilities, further consolidates the relations of social and human interdependence between them, and increases artistic and cultural relations.

Among the concerned Arab institutions, this project will become a bright Arab front for other peoples and societies. The orchestra has achieved great success since its inception and its first session was in Damascus in 2006.
