He is said to have evaded more than two million euros in taxes: From Wednesday, Alfons Schuhbeck (73) will have to answer before the Munich I district court.

The star chef even faces imprisonment!

Our editorial team answers the most important questions about the start of the process.

Munich – It will be one of the biggest processes of the year: from Wednesday Alfons Schuhbeck (73) will be in court for tax evasion.

The great star chef: He is in danger of losing his reputation - and also his freedom.

What will become of Schuhbeck?

We answer the most important questions in advance:

What is Alfons Schuhbeck specifically accused of?

The indictment by the Munich I public prosecutor lists a total of 25 cases of tax evasion.

Schuhbeck is said to have smuggled two million euros past the Treasury.

In addition, the star chef is said to have illegally obtained tax benefits of one million euros by falsifying invoices.

Process in Munich: What is Schuhbeck now facing for a penalty?

Definitely detention!

The Federal Court of Justice has set the limit for tax evaders at one million euros.

According to investigations by tax investigators and the public prosecutor, Schuhbeck is significantly higher.

Above all, it will depend on his numbers in court: on daily and annual financial statements.

But also on how much trade, sales and income tax he has paid.

He will have to testify himself, but also employees.

The results of the investigation by the tax officials are also eagerly awaited.

Despite the accusation of millions: Why isn't the star chef in custody?

Because there is no reason for arrest.

The risk of escaping or collusion is considered to be such – the latter, for example, if data could subsequently be falsified.

Schuhbeck has worked closely with the authorities since the allegations became known.

He is aware of his critical situation.

What is Schuhbeck currently doing?

Developed.

Mainly in his restaurant Südtiroler Stuben am Platzl.

Schuhbeck is also active as a cook at FC Bayern.

And his TV show “Schuhbecks”?

According to Bayerischer Rundfunk, episodes of five episodes each will be broadcast twice.

But: "No recordings are currently planned," says spokeswoman Wibke Heise.

And: After his company went bankrupt, the chef no longer worked as an entrepreneur himself, but instead worked for the newly founded Schuhbecks Company GmbH.

How many witnesses are called in the trial?

Up to 20. Only the main proceedings will show whether everyone has to be questioned or whether more will be added.

Do employees or bosses of FC Bayern also have to testify in the process?

This is currently not planned, but could still become an issue.

Because with regard to Schuhbeck's invoices, the question arises as to how he should have forged documents if he was not in Munich at all, but as a chef for FC Bayern at games abroad.

"There will be a lot of things to clarify in the case," says an insider.

Who will defend Alfons Schuhbeck?

His lawyers are Sascha König and Markus Gotzens.

Both are experts in tax and criminal law.

In 2014, Gotzens was also on the legal team of ex-Bayern boss Uli Hoeneß, who was sentenced to 3.5 years.

Has Alfons Schuhbeck ever been to court?

Yes.

In 1994 he was convicted of breach of trust and tax evasion.

The sentence was one year's imprisonment on probation, and Schuhbeck also had to pay a fine of 250,000 marks.

According to the Federal Central Register, however, the criminal record has long since been erased – so it no longer has any influence on the current verdict.

Legally, Schuhbeck is therefore considered an irreproachable man.

The question is whether it will stay that way.
