(CNN Spanish) --

A group of civil organizations denounced the espionage in Mexico of at least three journalists and human rights activists through Pegasus software between 2019 and 2021, during the current government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

According to the announcement, the holder of the contract is the Ministry of Defense and those spied on are people who carry out investigations into human rights violations by the Army.

López Obrador had announced in 2021 that there would be no contracts with the Israeli company's software to spy on civil society.

CNN has requested a written response from the Ministry of the Interior and Defense, but has not yet received a response.

The organizations said the details of the contract were ratified by documents leaked last week by Guacamaya, an organization that obtained 6TB of information from the Ministry of Defense.
