Paris: four days of free breast cancer screening on Place de la République

Until Friday, a screening truck is parked in the heart of the capital, before crisscrossing Île-de-France and then returning to Paris on 26

Cross the Place de la République (Xe) and come across the big pink and white bus.

Telling yourself that "it's important", that all women should be able to easily access breast cancer screening, and that this high-tech radiology center on wheels is a bit like the care that comes to you.

From this Tuesday, and until Friday, as part of Pink October, the team of a Parisian radiology center takes up residence at the foot of buildings, to invite women aged 50 to 74 to have a mammogram, in about twenty minutes.

Initiated for the first time last year, the "Pink Truck", the result of a partnership between the Regional Cancer Screening Coordination Center (CRCDC) with GE Healthcare and the Roche laboratory, enabled 80 examinations to be carried out.

This year, “we will do a lot more,” predicts Laura Hernandez, general manager of the program at GE Healthcare.

We will do about fifty a day.

A drop of water, however, given the number of women potentially affected.

"Only one in two is screened in Paris," said Sara Levy, head of the CRCDC.

It's too little, and it has dropped since the pandemic.

Friday afternoon, the Pink Truck will also be reserved for women with disabilities, too often excluded from screening due to lack of accessibility.

“For us, it is essential.

All women must be able to take the exam”, argues Laura Hernandez, who assures that “even without an appointment, we will ensure that all those who present themselves do the screening”.

The most precarious also, like the ten women for whom Chantal Laurent, social worker from a 20th century emergency accommodation center, came on site to ensure availability.

“These are actions that make sense.

Last year, I convinced 5 of them. This year, they are 10 and I'm setting an example by also getting tested!
