A 10-year-old boy from Aosta died this morning of a rare form of brain tumor.
He had been hospitalized for a few days at the Regina Margherita hospital in Turin.
His name was Alessandro and he lived in the Valle d'Aosta capital together with a brother, his mother and his grandmother.
About ten days ago he had the first symptoms: suffering from facial paralysis, he was taken to the Parini hospital in Aosta where the doctors, after receiving the results of the first exams, arranged for the transfer to the most well-equipped Turin health center. .
The evolution of the disease was very rapid and unstoppable until death.
“It is a very rare form of malignant tumor” and with “very little chance of cure and very low probability of long-term cure, less than 10% after one year.
This child was affected by this form and we were unable to do practically anything ”.
This is how the head of pediatric oncology of the Regina Margherita hospital in Turin, Dr. Franca Fagioli, explains to ANSA the case of Alessandro, the 10-year-old boy from Aosta who died this morning.
It is "a highly malignant brain tumor located in a location in the brain close to vital organs".
The position is “particularly delicate” both for the diagnosis phase (the removal of a small part of tissue) and when one “begins to cure” with chemotherapy or radiotherapy, due to the changes it undergoes in the shape, reducing itself.
