The Chief Criminal Inspector of the Eastern District, Zhang Henghui, briefly described the case, saying that on October 2, 2022, 13 national flags and 12 regional flags were destroyed at the junction of Watson Road, North Point Electric Road.

After an in-depth investigation by the Eastern District Police District Serious Crime Unit, a 36-year-old Moroccan man was arrested on October 4, and the clothes and shoes the suspect was wearing at the time of the crime were found at his residence.

Senior Inspector Ye Zhanyang of the Second Team of the Eastern District Police District Serious Crime Unit said that the national flag and the regional flag were hung around the North Point Electric Road to celebrate the National Day. CCTV showed that a Moroccan man tore 25 bamboo poles tied to the roadside iron fence at 4:18 a.m. on the same day and threw them out of the road.

After committing the crime, the suspect fled eastbound along Electric Road. After in-depth investigation and analysis of a large number of CCTV footage, the police believe that the suspect walked from Causeway Bay to the above site, and then reached Shau Kei Wan after another two hours.

Police continued to track down the whereabouts of the suspect in the Shau Kei Wan area. They found him entering a residential building on East Main Street at about 6 pm yesterday and arrested him immediately.

The 36-year-old Moroccan arrested holds a Hong Kong identity card, reported that he was engaged in the catering industry, and came to Hong Kong in 2015 after marrying a Hong Kong woman.

Police believe he committed the crime alone, with no one else involved, and are investigating his mental state.
