An appeals court allows DACA recipients to continue renewing protections and work permits

The Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, based in New Orleans, maintains the prohibition that new applicants cannot register even if they qualify for the program, which protects more than half a million dreamers from deportation.

A United States appeals court decided this Wednesday to keep alive the immigration program of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA, in English), which protects more than half a million 'dreamers' arrived in childhood from deportation.

The court, however, upheld the ban that prevents new applicants from enrolling even if they qualify for the Obama-era program.

He also opted to return the case to a lower court.
