There are now 21 of them hanging in the municipality of Berg.
They have optimal climatic conditions, they are durable and are also referred to as "luxury hotels for birds": We are talking about the nesting boxes, with which Cordula Marschner has been protecting species for a long time.
The 50-year-old from Mörlbach is an active member of the State Association for Bird Protection (LBV) - just like her husband Andreas.
Together they gave out nesting boxes to interested parties in Aufkirchen at the weekend in return for a donation.
Berg
- "We had extremely adverse weather conditions," says Cordula Marschner.
That's why she got rid of only five pieces to private individuals that day.
But overall the campaign is going great.
The dark gray boxes made of wood-concrete can be seen at playgrounds and child care facilities.
And the municipal building yard was also happy to take a few from the Marschners.
"They are quite heavy at six kilos, but still easy to attach," says Cordula Marschner.
And for the great tit, house sparrow, starling and Co., it is neither too warm nor too cold in the "luxury hotel".
The committed animal rights activist wants to distribute more nesting boxes at the many playgrounds in Berg next spring.
She got the okay from the community.
She asks private individuals to hang up the birds' homes correctly (not in the blazing sun, not facing a street, but rather towards the bushes) and to clean them thoroughly now in autumn.
"Not that parasites settle and the animals then get sick," emphasizes Marschner, who also warns of the risk of mold.
