After 25 years, Josef Killy (65) is handing over “his” Aral in Holzkirchen.

He trained some of the new tenants, a young family, himself.

Holzkirchen

– You still paid in Deutschmarks, electric cars were only known from the Carrera Bahn: 25 years ago, in 1997, Josef Killy (65) took over the Aral filling station in Holzkirchen.

Now the Weyarner passed the tap on to new tenants, some of whom he trained himself.

Kristina Balser (34) had been the station manager for Killy in Holzkirchen for years.

Since September 29, she and her husband Tim (30) have been fully responsible as tenants.

The couple will also take over the Aral in Bad Wiessee from Killy at the end of November.

Retirement will finally begin for the Weyarner.

The 65-year-old steers into the new phase of his life without much melancholy.

"I'm looking forward to it," he admits, "after 50 years of working life it's about time to retire." A few days before the opening of the Olympic Games in Munich, Killy began his training as a wholesale and retail salesman.

In 1991 he entered the petrol station business as a leaseholder of Aral in Weyarn.

Gasoline and diesel remained his companions.

At times, Killy managed up to five Aral stations at the same time - in Weyarn, Holzkirchen, Raubling, Bad Tölz and Rottach-Egern.

Finally, the two locations Holzkirchen and Bad Wiessee remained in the Tegernsee valley.

His professional legacy almost stays in the “family”.

Kristina Balser began her training at Aral Holzkirchen as a young woman 18 years ago.

The retail specialist worked hard and was promoted to station manager.

"She knows all the processes here and has a lot of experience," says her husband Tim.

For him, of course, gas stations are new professional territory.

Born in Warngau – the couple lives in Feldkirchen-Westerham with their little daughter Melina – he originally learned a profession that was very unusual for men.

He had trained as an educator at the specialist academy for social education at the Vocational School Center in Miesbach (BSZ).

He managed day-care centers on Tegernsee and in Munich, most recently he worked as a "personal trainer" and also as a fitness coach.

"Now I'm taking the opportunity to get to know a completely different industry." He wants to start a new phase of life at his wife's side.

He doesn't only know Killy as his wife's boss.

"He is our daughter's godfather." The new tenants are planning an opening ceremony in the spring.

The couple wants to share the work.

Holzkirchen remains Kristina's kingdom, Tim is to manage Aral in Bad Wiessee from the end of November.

"My wife is my boss," says Balser with a laugh, "I have no problem with that at all." The new professional constellation with the independence of both partners could even help to complement each other in bringing up their daughter.

Little will change for customers, says Balser, neither in terms of space nor personnel.

"Everything stays the same." In Holzkirchen, the petrol station team has 20 employees (eight of them full-time positions);

Four employees are permanently employed in Bad Wiessee, and a further eight help out in shifts.

The Leonhardi rides in the district will take place again this year as usual.

Here is a preliminary report from Warngau.
