The infection situation in the district has deteriorated significantly.

The governor urges caution.

The chairman of the medical district association speaks of a "high number of unreported cases".

District

– The infection situation in the district has deteriorated significantly.

"Corona is making us more worried again," said District Administrator Olaf von Löwis (CSU) on Wednesday in the district committee.

"The numbers have gone up dramatically." The district administrator did not allude so much to the current 7-day incidence, which was 776 on Wednesday and has therefore fallen again compared to the previous days.

Rather, the stress at Agatharied Hospital alarms him.

Hospital sets up two corona stations

"There was a short-term explosion of corona cases that needed medical treatment," he said.

The district clinic had to set up two complete corona stations.

According to the intensive care register, three patients are in the intensive care unit, two of them need invasive ventilation.

15 percent of the intensive care beds are currently occupied by Covid patients.

"There is no reason to panic," said Löwis at the same time.

"But my appeal is to do everything we can to keep the situation under control." For the population, this means adhering to the hygiene and distance rules and using the existing vaccination options.

The new, adapted corona vaccine is available at the vaccination center in Hausham.

The facility is open on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. It is not necessary to book an appointment.

Festivities as infection drivers

According to the district administrator, the clear reason for the increase in the number of infections is the regional and national festivities of the past few weeks.

The current situation could also lead to staff failures in the hospital and thus to further tension.

Löwis: "Therefore my big request: be more careful again!"

"People are usually not seriously ill"

The impression is that this is already happening – at least in part.

At least that's how the chairman of the district medical association, Thomas Straßmüller, sees it: "You can already see that people are increasingly putting on masks in supermarkets, for example." That's a good thing, especially when it comes to people at risk, the doctor thinks.

Although he also notes that the numbers are increasing by leaps and bounds, “the people are usually not seriously ill”.

What he is more worried about is the infrastructure - such as the staff in hospitals and other health facilities - and other parts of public life.

"Underreported figures are still very high"

Straßmüller also sees the fact that people have been meeting a lot recently - and the time of year - as the reason for the increased numbers.

Even if the corona virus - unlike the flu - continued to play a role in summer, things feel a little better in autumn/winter.

The doctor's spokesman also confirms an impression that many people gained in the summer: namely that more people are infected than the figures from the Robert Koch Institute suggest.

"The number of unreported cases is still very high." Many people would not do a PCR test after a positive rapid test.

Not to mention the people who don't even notice their infection or who don't even test themselves if they have symptoms.

Queue in front of the test station is getting longer again

Nevertheless, the queue in front of Straßmüller's test station is getting longer, which is also due to the fact that after the cold weeks, the number of colds is also increasing outside of Corona.

Overall, the doctor is anxious about the coming winter, but is a little less concerned than a year ago, when more dangerous virus variants prevailed and vaccination rates were lower.
