For many years, the Islamic community in Penzberg has been taking part in the nationwide "Open Mosque Day" - this time with an appeal to conserve resources and to rethink consumer behavior.

Penzberg - Benjamin Idriz took up a current topic at the "Day of the Open Mosque", to which the Islamic community of Penzberg had invited.

"Climate change, Corona, the Ukraine crisis and now the energy crisis...", said the imam.

"We stumble from one crisis to the next." It is therefore time to think about wrong consumer behavior.

Dealing with the resources of creation is the task of every community and also of each individual, because "all resources are gifts of God" and people are obliged to deal with them responsibly.

"Eat and drink, but do not waste," the Koran demands, because Allah does not love the squanderer, said Idriz.

Everyone needs to reduce their use of plastics, chemicals and energy

It is the task of people to deal with the world in such a way that it is preserved, because everyone also has responsibility for future generations.

According to the imam, the resources available for a year should not be used up in July of a year.

Now the Muslim community and each individual must lead by example in reducing the consumption of plastics, chemicals and energy.

In this way, the heating will be operated in a more environmentally friendly manner and the level of illumination during night prayers will be reduced.

Idriz also called for cycling to the mosque if possible and buying fair trade products.

You shouldn't just do what you like if nature suffers as a result.

After the speech, the visitors had the opportunity to talk to the members of the congregation over Turkish tea and oriental cakes.

A visitor from Penzberg, who is a member of the Protestant community, noticed that the imam had "quite directly asked those present in the mosque to behave in an environmentally friendly manner".

This surprised him, since he was not used to it from his church area.
