The Directorate of School Health in the Ministry of Education, in cooperation with the Department of Communication on Risks and Community Participation in the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), launched a health awareness and education campaign about cholera.
The director of school health in the ministry, Dr. Hatoon Al-Tawashi, confirmed in a statement to SANA that the campaign targets all governorate schools, where teams of health educators working in school health departments in the education directorates in the governorates were trained on cholera, its symptoms and means of preventing infection, with emphasis on the importance of hygiene. Personality, washing hands, ensuring the safety of drinking water and staying away from exposed and contaminated food, to convey this information to school students and stress the need to adhere to it.
Al-Tawashi indicated that through field tours to schools, awareness and education sessions are organized for pupils and students, in addition to educational and administrative frameworks in schools on the subject of the campaign, indicating that the campaign began in five governorates of Damascus countryside, Quneitra, As-Suwayda, Daraa and Deir ez-Zor, to start in the rest of the governorates during next week.
