Apple exhibition, cabbage cutting, swap meet and last but not least the Apple Queen and her crowned colleagues attracted many interested people to the 22nd Gardeners' Day in St. Wolfgang.

St. Wolfgang

- state of emergency on St. Wolfgang's parking lots.

On Monday, visitors to the 22nd Gartlertag flocked from all directions.

Several highnesses, product queens from the area, came at the invitation of the 11th Apple Queen, Raphaela I.

"It's finally Gartler's Day again," was the message from several sides during the welcome in the fully occupied Goldach Hall.

"Short distances, great effect - that's what the gardening association lives for," said Mayor Ullrich Gaigl about the event, which was able to take place again after a two-year break due to corona.

Several local organizations helped together: The Jeßling fire brigade took care of the parking situation, the Maibaumfreunde Armstorf provided the catering and the St. Wolfgang brass band provided the musical accompaniment.

Gaigl: "This cohesion is what makes St. Wolfgang what it is."

"It's impressive what kind of people are out and about here," said deputy district administrator Franz Hofstetter, enthusiastic about the rush.

There are around two million garden owners in Bavaria, but "there isn't something like St. Wolfgang everywhere".

He emphasized the importance of a horticultural association where garden owners can exchange ideas.

A special pillar of the association is the youngsters, emphasized chairman Rudi Brand.

The offices of product queens also belonged to the promotion of young talent.

The 11th St. Wolfgang Apple Queen, Raphaela I, was present with royal guests.

In fact, her reign ended last year.

However, since she was hardly able to carry out her office due to the corona, she agreed to hold it for two more years until 2023.

After that, the 3rd chairman and queen representative, Günter Schmalzl, goes on the search for a successor.

The promotion of environmental protection and health is also one of the goals of the gardening association.

And once a year, on the St. Wolfgang Gartlertag, the club members show what they can do.

"After Gartler's Day is before Gartler's Day," said Chairman Brand, because the event is organized throughout the year.

This planning is needed, because there was also a lot to do outside and in the school auditorium.

Visitors could test their knowledge of apple varieties at the apple exhibition, where numerous different varieties with their origin, fruit size and taste were presented, from the red Boskoop to the Pimona to the Adam's apple.

They were also able to get to know the local herbs that grow on their own doorstep, as well as their uses and effects.

The gardeners were busy cutting cabbage, where wine sauerkraut was made from hundreds of kilograms of white cabbage in the traditional way.

And anyone who had too many plants or wanted to exchange their offshoots for a new green could take part in the plant exchange market.

There were insect hotels and woodwork, honey and jam, home-baked, home-grown and home-distilled.

Nobody had to go home empty-handed from the 22nd Gartlertag.
