The fourth Sunday in October is very high on the Warngau calendar.

"Our national holiday," says Mayor Klaus Thurnhuber.

On October 23rd, the Rosserers are looking forward to another big trip.

A new dual leadership has taken over the chairmanship of the Leonhardi Committee.

Warngau

– When the Leonhardi ride revived in Warngau in 1983, Josef Huber was one of the supporters from the very beginning.

"Sepp was in charge almost from the start," says Mayor Klaus Thurnhuber.

For almost four decades, Huber pulled the important strings as chairman of the Leonhardi Committee, which organizes the pilgrimage together with the community and parish.

At his request, a dual leadership is now assuming responsibility: Josef Quercher (54) from Bernloh and Anton Mayr (55) from Einhaus are the first contact persons for all participants for the trip on October 23 as committee chairmen.

Quercher and Mayr are experienced Rosserer.

"I drove Leonhardi even as a young boy," says the 54-year-old.

However, he and his counterpart Mayr would still have to grow into the new responsibility.

"We will still need the experience of Huber Sepp a little." He has promised to support the successors.

It is important for Quercher to point out that the tradition did not break off in the Corona years 2020 and 2021.

"There was always a small trip with 14, 15 teams from the immediate vicinity." On a small scale, certainly.

But Pastor Gottfried Doll always gave the blessing to the passing pilgrims before All Saints' Day.

The pilgrimage on October 23rd (departure 9.30 a.m. in Oberwarngau) will take place for the 39th time in a row.

This time, of course, everyone involved is looking forward to the big frame again.

More than 40 teams and many riders are expected.

"It's a Leonhardi ride that is second to none," enthuses the mayor.

For him it is the first "big" trip in four years;

In 2019 he was still too weak after the severe bull attack (we reported).

"The Rosserer give us a wonderful day, we appreciate that."

Some mayors, district administrators and state parliament presidents want to come

Leonhardi in Warngau has seen more and more participants and visitors over the years.

"We've become one of the most well-known and largest rides in the Oberland," says Quercher.

Thurnhuber knows from participants that the Rosserer people appreciate being able to catch a glimpse of other pilgrims on the route from Oberwarngau to Allerheiligen with two rounds via Reitham.

It is informal when setting up.

"First come, first served - we're going easy on the order," says Quercher.

"It's a nice Leonhardi ride, not tight, quite relaxed."

The tradition is only possible because there are still many horse riders with passion in the Oberland.

"There is a lot of idealism and a lot of financial effort behind it," says Quercher.

Preparations begin two weeks before the event.

As Thurnhuber reports, some mayor colleagues have announced themselves for the first trip to Corona, as well as district administrator Olaf von Löwis and state parliament president Ilse Aigner.

"I'm pleased that many are taking the time," says the mayor.

Nice weather would be fine, but is not decisive for the success of the pilgrimage, says Thurnhuber.

"Anyone who has ridden more often knows that there is something in every weather."
