Her homage to the theater fascinates the audience

The theater world has suffered in the two years of the pandemic.
Stages lay fallow, auditoriums remained empty.
That is now changing.
Germering – The world of theater was almost in danger of being forgotten – this fascinating cosmos of great artists and sometimes also big egos.
Carola Beil, Gabriele Misch and Willi Hörmann dedicated the scenic reading "Tafelspitz in Bilbao" to him together with Klaus Greif on the double bass - a 90-minute humorous homage to the theater.
The performance was one of the first events in the new Hofsalon of the Roßstall-Theater.
It was formerly a horse stable, then a props store and rehearsal room.
After a complete renovation, it has been transformed into a small, elegant hall for private celebrations and intimate cultural events - with a low ceiling, pillars, bistro furniture and a bar with a chic, illuminated, wood-panelled counter.
There is no stage and it is not missing either.
What is presented here takes place at eye level with the audience.
Bow before the theater
Beil, Misch and Hörmann embarked on a journey through the centuries for their bow in front of the theater.
Staged texts brought big names to life - Goethe, Brecht, Milva, George Tabori, Giorgio Strehler, Joachim Meyerhoff, Gisela Stein.
From Dieter Dorn's pen we learned of almost grotesque mishaps that he witnessed in his long theater practice.
Sometimes an actor's teeth flew out of his mouth, sometimes his glasses fell off his nose.
Lumpy texts, slips of the tongue, unplanned fits of laughter – they are the actor's worst enemy and mark the fine line between triumph and ridiculousness.
But one could also interpret it as a Brechtian means of alienation, mused Carola Beil.
The founder of epic theater didn't want performers to fully identify with their role and offer the audience a perfect illusion.

Divas terror and anything but sensitive directors came to life again in the amusing reading.
"How are you standing there?
I can't get enough of being disgusted,” the great Fritz Kortner is said to have snapped at a pitiable mime.
And further: "Out of five things I tell you, you do ten wrong!"
musical accents
Between the texts, Klaus Greif set musical accents, sometimes bowed out, sometimes plucked.
With an excerpt from Patrick Süskind's "Contrabass", performed by Willi Hörmann with passion and rewarded with applause, Greif's instrument was even briefly the center of attention.
He also accompanied Gabriele Misch and Carola Beil on a few well-assorted songs by Tom Waits, Voodoo Jürgens and, above all, by Kurt Weill.

One of Weill's titles was the "Bilbao Song".
And how did boiled beef get into the program title?
It is known to be a Viennese specialty.
Playwright George Tabori is said to have been asked during his time in the Austrian capital whether he had noticed how few cats there were there.
And when did he last eat boiled fillet?
A deliciously amused audience rewarded the quartet with enthusiastic applause.
