Japan will resume allowing independent travelers to enter the country on October 11. If tourists have received 3 doses of approved vaccines, they can be exempted from the PCR test certificate 72 hours before departure.
Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare officially released the updated list of approved vaccines on October 4. China's Kexing vaccines and Sinopharm vaccines are newly added to the list. The list will take effect on October 11.
Vaccines currently approved in Japan include Fubitai (also known as "Pfizer vaccine", jointly developed by Pfizer in the United States and BioNTech in Germany), AstraZeneca in the United Kingdom, Novavax in the United States, Covaxin in India (Kovax) Kexin), Moderna, and Janssen.
Under the new list, starting from October 11, Japan will also recognize Sinovac vaccines, Sinopharm vaccines, CanSino vaccines, as well as COVOVAX vaccines and Covishield vaccines from the Serum Institute of India.
Japan has previously stated in official documents that it will accept vaccines approved by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The Japanese government announced the list of newly approved vaccines, and the new measures will take effect from October 11 (Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare website)
Japan's current arrangement is that immigrants who hold a certificate of 3 doses of vaccine do not need to submit a PCR test certificate within 72 hours before departure.
Those who do not have proof of having received 3 doses of the vaccine are still required to submit a test certificate within 72 hours before departure.
The arrangement has been implemented since September 7.
