A man from Great Britain pretended to be a lottery winner when he hadn't won anything.

The imposter was just pretending to his family.

Newcastle – If you play the lottery, you will imagine the great luck of winning.

You can afford a lot with several million euros.

A house, a new car and much more.

A Brit told his family that he had hit the Euromillions lottery jackpot.

He showed up in pictures in chic villas and next to expensive cars.

But the man hadn't won the lottery and had serious money problems.

He told a lie to his family.

Lottery scammers: Man played lottery prize to family and was caught

A Newcastle man boasted in late September that he had won the country's third-largest lottery prize, British tabloid

The Sun

reported.

The man is said to have won a total of 171 million pounds – the equivalent of around 196 million euros.

To make the story more believable, the alleged winner sent pictures of himself touring villas.

He also had himself photographed when he supposedly bought fancy cars.

But when the man and his girlfriend borrowed money from family members, the story faltered.

“Some people fell for his story and gave him money.

But most knew he was deceiving us and that they were lies," a member of the family told

The Sun.

Since the actual winner's name was not released, it was easy for the man to pose as a millionaire.

The people around him became even more suspicious when the man wanted to rent a caravan.

Most caught on to him.

"Which lottery winner does that?" asked the family member.

When the lie was discovered, some were quite disappointed.

Lottery winner caught - Uncharacteristic behavior betrayed him

A spokesman for the lottery was able to confirm that the story seemed strange from the start.

“It is highly unusual to behave in this way.

Most people would just sit there in shock and start planning their future instead of shouting it from the rooftops.”

The man made up the story out of necessity as he had serious financial problems.

He lost his job as a roofer due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He has been living on social benefits for six months, as he described to the newspaper

A couple from England also struggled with the Euromillions jackpot.

They thought they had won the jackpot - but in the end they got nothing.
