More than 20 people were killed and 20 others were injured when a bus fell into a strait in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand.
The Xinhua news agency quoted the Indian police as saying today: "The accident occurred late last night, near Dhamakot area in Pauri Garhwal district, after the bus carrying about 45 people to attend a wedding party fell into a gorge 500 meters deep, killing 20 people." One person was injured, and twenty others were taken to hospital for treatment.
The police indicated that the rescue operations continued throughout the night, despite the difficulty of that in the dark, and the operations are still continuing.
