Rare fact, two fighter planes will fly over the capital of the French Riviera this Wednesday, October 5, at 11 a.m.
It is not a military operation and even less an exercise, but a tribute to General Louis Delfino, air pilot, on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of his birth, October 5, 1912 , in a building on rue Arson, in Nice.
On the ground, a ceremony will be held at the same time in front of the war memorial, Quai Rauba-Capeu, on the seaside road.
Pilot in the French army, holder of the 1939-1945 war cross, General Louis Delfino won some 20 aerial victories and took command of the Normandie-Niemen squadron during the Liberation in 1944. A few years later, in 1965, he presented himself in the municipal elections, in Nice, before being beaten by the outgoing mayor at the time, Jean Médecin.
General Delfino, who today has a boulevard in his name, in the Riquier district, died on June 11, 1968 of a heart attack in Paris.
