Ohlstadt could lose the Bocksberger butcher shop by the end of the year.

The local shop has long since become an institution.

The reason: lack of staff.

Ohlstadt

– December 5 marks the ninth anniversary of the Bocksberger butcher’s shop – it has long since become an institution in Ohlstadt.

The shop has many regular customers who, even in the hard Corona times, put up with exceptionally long queues to buy from their trusted butcher.

In addition to the neighboring bakery, the company is the last food bastion in the center of Ohlstadt.

Shortage of staff: Butcher's shop has been looking for employees for two years

And it is precisely this institution that is acutely threatened with closure.

The reason given by boss Stefanie Bocksberger is a problem that is currently affecting many industries: the futile recruitment of new staff.

"We've been looking for two years," emphasizes the 41-year-old.

She has already invested around 2000 euros in it.

Without success.

"No one even introduces himself," Bocksberger regrets the lack of interest in working.

By the way: everything from the region is also available in our regular GAP newsletter.

The long-standing belief that butcher shops will not get into trouble like many other professions “as long as people have to eat” has recently turned out to be a misconception.

Two of Bocksberger's employees have already had to give up for good reasons, and the third will leave at the end of October.

No staff: the butcher shop is threatened with an urgent appeal to the public

Bocksberger is currently in the shop with her mother and another saleswoman.

On Thursdays, the shop is closed from midday so that the remaining employees have at least half a day off on top of Monday.

Bocksberger cannot and does not want to continue the business alone with her mother.

Two children are waiting at home, and she doesn't want to prevent her mother from retiring or artificially postpone it.

Once again, the 41-year-old makes an urgent appeal to the public.

Experience in the profession is not a criterion: "We also take unskilled employees, just anyone who is interested," she says, hoping for rescue in the last resort.

Because one thing is certain: If the call for help is again in vain, the bastion will fall: "Then it will be over on January 1st."
