Two French nationals, on vacation in southeastern Mexico, are missing, the French Embassy in Mexico told AFP on Wednesday, September 5, confirming information from the local press.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has been informed of the disappearance of these two French nationals
," said the French Embassy in Mexico.

His services are mobilized, just like the Consulate General of France in Mexico City, in close contact with the family

A couple on vacation in “
a spiritual center
”

They have been missing since September 12 in Chiapas
,” the Reforma newspaper reported over the weekend, identifying the two missing as a couple who were in “
a spiritual center
” in San Cristobal de las Casas, one of the main tourist destinations in Mexico.
The woman's sister "
asked for help in a group (on the internet) of tourism in Chiapas to find her trace
", assures the newspaper.
“
Urgent, we are looking for [them] desperately […] We haven't heard from them for a month.
They
are in Chiapas
, probably around San Cristobal de las Casas.

,” the newspaper added, quoting its message.
More than 106,000 people have disappeared or are missing in Mexico since 1964, according to the National Register of Missing Persons.
Most of these disappearances have been recorded since 2006, the date of the launch of a military anti-drug operation which left 340,000 dead, and most have been attributed to criminal organizations.
