The movement is irreversible.
From next year, Peugeot will accelerate the electrification of its range.
In addition to the nine plug-in hybrid versions, including the launch of the 408 225 hp, the Sochaux-based manufacturer will have a range of six 100% electric passenger cars with the new 308 sedan and station wagon.
The electrified range will also be enriched with a new light hybridization engine.
It will be inaugurated by the 3008 and 5008 SUVs during the year 2023. This new version combines a new evolution of the 3-cylinder gasoline engine Pure Tech 136 horsepower meeting the new Euro 7 standard and operating according to the Miller cycle with a battery 48 V and a 21 kW electric motor.
The latter is housed in an unprecedented dual-clutch automatic transmission developed by equipment manufacturer Punch Powertrain.
Result: unlike plug-in hybrid technology, this system does not allow driving in 100% electric mode for very long.
At most, with the battery of only 0.9 kWh, the range of electrical action is limited to 1 km at low speed, when approaching a fire for example.
Nevertheless: the first light hybridization engine from Peugeot authorizes a reduction in consumption of 15%.
This is not nothing because on the WLTP homologation cycle, these few drops of petrol less will make it possible to lower CO2 emissions and therefore the ecological penalty for a more attractive selling price.
