Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed that Russia was and will remain sovereign, pointing out that a national education system must be built in the phase of transformation.

“It is necessary to strengthen and build a sovereign national system of education and upbringing of the younger generation, to ensure the coherence and unity of the country’s educational space, to pass on to children the moral and cultural law of our people,” Putin was quoted by Sputnik as saying today during a meeting with the winners and finalists of the Teacher of the Year competition in Russia.

He explained that the Russian authorities will help improve the educational process, restore and repair schools, in addition to conducting medical examinations for children in the new regions that have recently joined Russia, and in kindergartens with the help of mobile teams.

World Teachers' Day is celebrated annually in Russia on the fifth of October, and UNESCO announced the holiday in 1994, which coincides with the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 Recommendation issued by the International Labor Organization and UNESCO on the status of teachers, the first international instrument on the legal status of teachers .
