Putin imposes sanctions on German natural gas storage operators

The Russian government issues sanctions against the German company Erdgasspeicher Peissen GmbH - the fourth largest storage facility in Europe.
Moscow - Russia had already stopped supplying gas to Germany during the Ukraine war.
Now Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin has apparently reacted to the trusteeship of Russian energy suppliers in Germany and issued sanctions against the German natural gas storage company Peissen GmbH, which manages Europe's fourth-largest natural gas storage facility in Saxony-Anhalt.

Gas crisis: Russian sanctions against German natural gas storage facility
Until shortly after the outbreak of the war, half of the company Erdgasspeicher Peissen GmbH belonged to the Russian energy supplier Gazprom, whose shares were then taken over in trust by the Federal Network Agency.
Erdgasspeicher Peissen GmbH manages the “Katharina” gas storage facility in Saxony-Anhalt.
The storage facility, named after the Russian Tsarina Catherine the Great, should be able to accommodate 600 million cubic meters of gas in its final stage of construction - planned for 2025.
According to media reports, this makes it the fourth largest natural gas storage facility in Europe.
According to its own statements, the daily capacity of the storage system would then correspond to the energy generated by a solar system with an area of 100,000,000 square meters - the equivalent of 14,000 soccer fields - Peissen GmbH announced on its website.
Counter-sanctions after the federal government took over the Gazprom subsidiary in trust
Since Gazprom stopped filling the storage facility after the start of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, the German government intervened to prevent a gas shortage.
After the trustee takeover of the German Gazprom subsidiaries, Moscow spoke of an expropriation.
Russia has responded with counter-sanctions.
Before Erdgasspeicher Peissen GmbH, the government blacklisted Gazprom Germania.
In addition to Gazprom, Germany had placed the crude oil importers Rosneft Germany and RN Refining & Marketing GmbH under trusteeship of the Federal Network Agency in order to ensure security of supply.
