In addition to the Renault 5, the R4 will also celebrate a comeback as an electric car.

Now there is a first teaser photo of the successor to the small car classic.

Update from October 4, 2022, 4:00 p.m.:

The rumor becomes a certainty: At the Paris Motor Show (October 17 to 23), Renault is giving a preview of a new edition of the French classic with the R4 Concept.

Unlike the historical model, the small high-roof station wagon built between 1961 and 1992, the first official image indicates a beefy crossover vehicle or SUV with high ground clearance and roof structures.

The purely electrically driven Neo-R4 is therefore likely to be an SUV, which will, however, quote the original R4 with its front design or the side window graphics.

Whether it is really an electrified new edition of the classic or a sham like the announced new Opel Manta will be known at the latest when series production starts in 2025.

First report from December 30, 2021, 3:42 p.m.:

Boulogne-Billancourt (France) – At Lancia, the Delta could soon make a comeback as an electric car and Volkswagen will also be bringing the Bulli as an electrified ID in the coming year.

Buzz back.

And these are not the only cult cars that are supposed to convince customers of electromobility as electric vehicles.

Renault is also currently working on the return of two iconic models.

It has been known for a long time that the Renault 5 will soon be back on the road.

But there were also rumors about a possible comeback for the R4.

That there might be more to it should have been clear at the latest when the French presented the Air4 study.

Renault brings R4 back - with clear differences

Patent drawings have now been leaked and teaser images have been published.

So the retro electric car will come.

Internally, the project runs under the name "4ever" according to a report by "AutoBild".

This designation was also protected by the European Patent Office.

However, it is not yet clear whether the name will also be used for series production or whether there will soon be a Renault 4 again.

However, Renault should provide the answer to this question before the market launch at the latest.

This is where “AutoBild” brings the year 2025 into play.

The basis should be the CMF-BEV platform (Common Modular Family), on which the Renault 5 will also be based.

However, there is no more detailed information about the range, battery capacity or prices.

Renault brings back R4 - cult car becomes an electric SUV

Unlike the R5, the French automaker appears to have made a slight departure from its predecessor with the R4.

Like many electric cars, the Renault 4 seems to be making a comeback as an SUV.

However, the electric SUV will not deny its origins and will adopt the boxy basic shape of the old R4.

However, it can be assumed that the new Renault 4 will get a significantly larger and sloping windscreen.

The lamps – presumably integrated into the closed radiator grille – are also based on those of the R4.

In addition, the French are likely to honor the cult car with a special Renault logo into which the 4 is integrated.
